The ability to think comprehensively and flexibly can provide solutions to the varied challenges of life

Living in a modern society, we always face difficult new challenges. Flexible thinking, instead of the rigidity of established frameworks, is needed, as well as the ability to synthesize ideas using the methods and knowledge of multiple academic disciplines. The Faculty of Human Life Sciences develops this ability to comprehend a diverse view of the familiar reality of human life, through the deconstruction and rebuilding of various academic disciplines, with the intention of improving QOL. QOL means Quality of Life or Quality of Living. Despite the common human pursuit of happiness, our ideas of happiness vary from person to person. The first priority for happiness is the improvement of QOL. Since people are social animals, the improvement of their own QOL cannot happen without an improvement for other people and society. This is a basic truth. Simply put, people feel happy when they see the happy faces of others.  When people know the joy of working for others, their joy will double.  This miraculous feeling is our shared humanity.

Human Life Sciences’ Departmental Goals

A basic attitude, common to the three departments of Human Life Sciences, is to pursue the improvement of QOL, building on this feeling in the various aspects of human life. The Department of Human Life Studies wants to develop capable people who can transform their own lives through the support of other people and their communities, the Department of  Food and Nutrition aims to foster excellence in the area of food and health, and the Department of Early Childcare and Education has the purpose to produce excellence in the area of early childhood, the foundation of growth. As you may see, the major objectives of all three departments are different, however, all three departments aim at the improvement of QOL, and share the same purpose to foster women who can enthusiastically challenge the new problems faced everyday.
